Osteoarthritis represents an advanced stage of disease progression caused in part by injury, loss of cartilage structure and function, and an imbalance in inflammatory and noninflammatory pathways. The burden of this disease will increase in direct proportion to the increase in the older adult population. Research on current and experimental treatment protocols are reviewed, including the effect of hyaluronic acid in both in vitro and in vivo studies, autologous chondrocyte and osteochondral plug implantation, and gene therapy. Disease-modifying osteoarthritis drugs and in vivo studies of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are reviewed.

As humans age the amount of glucosamine normally
synthesized by the body declines, leading to a deficiency in
the production of these important biological chemicals that
form the major cushioning elements of the joint fluids and surrounding
tissues. This further leads to specific tissue weakness as tissue
in the joints become damaged and the lubricating synovial fluids
in the joint spaces become thin and watery. The normal cushioning
is lost leaving the bones and the cartilage to scrape against
each other inside the joint space.
Glucosamine stimulates the body's manufacture
of collagen, the protein portion of the fibrous substance that
holds joints together. Collagen is also the main component of
the shock-absorbing cushion called articular cartilage. Articular
cartilage is the white smooth surface which covers the ends
of body joints such as those in the wrist, fingers, toes, ankles,
knees, hips and between the discs of the spine.
Although scientific studies were conducted with
glucosamine sulfate, the hydrochloride form is believed to assimilate
more efficiently and completely into the body. Glucosamine hydrochloride
may reflect more stability, purity, and higher concentration
when compared to glucosamine sulfate.
Glucosamine helps detoxify and repair tough tissue,
tendons and other connective tissues in the body. This product
is not intended to diagnose, cure or prevent any diseases. Please
consult your physician before beginning any new supplements.
USAGE
For best results it is recommended that 1-2 capsules
3 times daily of Cetylmyristoleate,
also known as CMO, should be taken for 7 days followed by 6
capsules a day of our 4-in-1 formula for 7 days. Alternate this
way until cetyl myristoleate is finished. Be sure to read the
label instructions. Avoid products
that contain alcohol, aspartame, caffeine and nicotine.
They inhibit the cetyl myristoleate supplement. If you must
use these substances, allow 3-5 hours before taking cetylmyristoleate.
